Best Caribbean Islands for a Destination Wedding

The Caribbean can sometimes seem an easy spot for a destination wedding. Picking the actual island is where most couples get stuck, because every island can look like it checks the same boxes: beach, palm trees, a pretty spot for a ceremony. Somewhere around the fifth resort website, they all start blending into one very pretty blur.

What actually separates these islands is flights, resort style, how comfortable your guests will be getting from the airport to the resort, the weather at a specific time of the year, where on property you can actually say your vows, and what you want the rest of the weekend to feel like once the ceremony's done.

St. Lucia

St. Lucia is a great pick if you want dramatic landscapes. The Pitons rising up behind you, lush green everywhere you look, a handful of boutique resorts that don't look like anywhere else in the Caribbean. It's probably one of the most photogenic islands you could pick, but it's not particularly close.

The tradeoff here is logistics. The roads are very winding and hilly, resort location matters because most aren't close to the airport, and transfers need to be planned ahead. I wouldn't pick St. Lucia casually for a big group without mapping out exactly how everyone's getting from the airport to the ceremony (and making sure no one gets easily carsick!).

Antigua

Antigua is a great choice for couples who want gorgeous beaches and that crystal clear blue water, plus a quieter island feel to go with them. It's polished without feeling snobby, and the resorts here tend to work well for smaller, more intimate groups.

I reach for Antigua when a couple wants the wedding to feel romantic and beach-centered, but they don't want their thirty guests swallowed whole by a five-hundred-room resort.

Jamaica

Jamaica is a top contender when flights, resort variety, and guest budgets are your top priorities. There's a huge range of all-inclusive resorts, adults-only options as well as family friendly, and built-in wedding packages, and that actually does make planning easier once you land on the right property.

But the resort decision carries a lot of weight here, because Jamaica can feel like a completely different country depending on the region and the brand. Get it right and the week feels joyful and easy. Get it wrong and it can feel too big, too loud, or just generic.

Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos is incredible when the beach needs to be the main event, full stop. Grace Bay has that clear, almost unreal water and soft sand that makes the wedding photos look stunning.

It's definitely not the cheapest option on this list, so I tend to steer it toward couples planning a much smaller, more refined celebration rather than couples trying to stretch it across every guest's budget.

Barbados, Aruba, and Grenada

Barbados is a great fit for couples who care about the food and want an island that feels a little more independent and easy to move around. Aruba earns its keep when timing is a real concern due to hurricane season, since it sits outside the main hurricane belt and still gives guests plenty to do between events. And Grenada is worth a look if you want something quieter and a little less expected than the usual Caribbean wedding island.

None of these should get picked just because the name sounds good on a save-the-date. They need to match your group, your wedding style, and how much structure you actually want built into the trip.

My Advisor Take

For a smaller, more intimate wedding, I usually start with the guest experience, not the scenery. How easy is the flight, what are rooms actually going to cost everyone, how long is that transfer really, and will your guests have anything to enjoy at the resort beyond the one day they're there for you?

Once those answers are in place, the island choice tends become more obvious, and we can narrow down the resort to a short list.

I helped a couple plan a wedding last year with about forty guests on the list, including a few grandparents who don't get around easily anymore. They'd set their hearts on St. Lucia for the Piton views, which I understood completely. But once we walked through the transfer times and how spread out the resort options actually were, and how difficult it would likely be for them to get around almost all of the resorts, we moved them to Antigua instead. Their wedding week ended up feeling easy for the whole group, not just for the two of them.
